When Is It Time To Upgrade Your Water Heater?

If your water heater is more than 10 years old, it may be time to replace it. Of course, this is a general guideline and the actual lifespan of your equipment will vary - but with the brutally cold winters we have here in the Chicagoland, our water heaters get quite the workout during the winter. See below for a few more tips on deciding if your water heater is ready to be replaced.

Is your water heater just not producing hot water like it used to? There’s nothing worse than running out of hot water halfway through a shower or in the middle of washing dishes. In addition to no hot water, if you notice that the tank is leaking around the base or works erratically it’s probably time for an upgrade.

However, not all problems signify that your equipment must be replaced. If you hear hissing or sizzling noises it could mean that sediment has collected in the tank and a process as simple as draining the water and cleaning the collected scale could be the solution.

Have a leaky pressure-relief valve or leaky water supply pipes? Make sure the valve and fittings are tightened properly, and if the problem persists, these parts can be replaced.
